Here’s a FATAL and DUMB yet extremely common mistake ecommerce newbies make: “Nah, I’ve only made 2 sales this month, and it was my mom and my wife who bought from me! I’m a loser, my business is nothing!” Gladly, they’re wrong. Just scroll down to see what your actual business value is! Spoiler: it can exceed $30,000! And thanks to websites like Flippa it’s easy to see.
Just to start with, look at the screenshot below, what’s your first impression of these numbers?
Probably it’s: “Haha, $34? What’s that? I made more when I was 7 from selling lemonade at my garage in summer!”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure you like BIG revenue numbers and are able to make them, but how about this screenshot below?
Yes, that’s right. Online stores that only have one tiny processed $30 order sell for THOUSANDS of dollars on websites like Flippa.
Quick math: how much will a similar store cost, if it has, let’s say, 2 sales, $30 each? Exactly, about $15,600. And this is only one example, because, in fact, only you determine the final price for your store, if you decide to sell it.
Excited? Patience, my friend, there’s a lot more to unpack here.
There are actually tons of places to sell your website for an unbelievably high price. Well, if you need it, of course. Because the more sales you have – the higher is your store’s value and price. And even more examples like the store mentioned above. Let’s start with the most ridiculous one!
HomeFler – a website that gained $6 in sales is sold for $2,500
It might look ridiculous, but this is the ecommerce reality of today: a store that only makes $6 per month is easily sold for some $2,500. The niche doesn’t really matter here, even though this one is crafted in a Home accessories one and it indeed is an evergreen niche that can itself bring you thousands monthly. This store’s owner might have not cared much since the beginning and decided to sell it right from the start.
SwaddlePanda – a website that gained $7 in sales is sold for $2,000
And here’s one more example – Swaddlepanda.com. If you read our blog regularly you might know that the home decor and garden niche is one of the most profitable in ecommerce. So, it’s even surprising that the owner of this store built in the design and style niche didn’t make more sales before the whole store got on sale. Well, that was the owner’s choice and it brought them $2,000 immediately (if you stalk Flippa a bit, you’ll notice how quickly the stores get sold, in a day on average).
Trump2020Clothing – a website that gained $75 in sales is sold for $5,000
These guys didn’t even add a picture of their website. However, on Flippa it’s totally okay and doesn’t stop you from selling your website quickly. You just need to specify the main details: the net profit of the store and the asking price. This store built in an entertainment niche (kinda vague though) is sold for $5,000, while it’s only earned $75 for its owner.
KidsFavoriteGifts – a website that gained $230 in sales is sold for $7,000
Ah, smell that? That’s how big money smells! Kids & babies niche stores are always on top of the ecommerce revenues, so it’s no big deal to sell it for big money – you won’t wait long until someone buys it. Don’t however forget that you can make, for example, $49K/month with such a store, like we do with one of our own stores called CheeryKid.
InspiredPuppy – a website that gained $217 in sales is sold for $7,500
This store is similar to the previous one in terms of profit and asking price, however the niche is different. Even though the picture of the description is small you might notice that the store isn’t that stylish or attractive in terms of visuals (at all). Seriously, it doesn’t even matter if your website looks bad – it’ll still sell on Flippa.
Room Aesthetics – a website that gained $177 in sales is sold for $8,000
One more design and style niche store example, however, sold for $8,000 this time. That’s very high business value with such low sales. What’s next?
ILuxOfficial – a website that gained $814 in sales is sold for $8,000
And another one home niche store sold for crazy money. It’s up to you to choose the niche of your store but remember that if you don’t have any better specific ideas, a home and garden niche is the best plan “B” for you. It’s easy to market such products and the store itself will sell well on Flippa.
TopTierStyle – a website that gained $382 in sales is sold for $11,000
We’re getting closer to stores that sell for higher prices on Flippa. Meet Toptierstyle – the design and style store that both looks fine and sells for fine $11,000. You see, the fact that it has barely made sales ($382/month is not much for a 6-year-old store). And yet it still is sold for such a big sum of money. Don’t you find capitalism a great thing at this point?
League of Store – a website that gained $497 in sales is sold for $15,000
Gamers, you’ll like this one! If you decide to open a store selling gaming stuff or some particular game-related stuff and decide to give up on this business one day you’ll be blessed with some $15,000! Seriously, even if this store had made less than $497, the owner would still be able to sell it for $15,000 because geek stuff always sells good and the audience is loyal to their community.
DetailAndSupply – a website that gained $600 in sales is sold for $15,000
DetailAndSupply is a website that has been sold for $15,000 after generating $600 in sales. The website was able to generate some interest among its target audience by selling car details and supplies.
Boho-Dress – a website that gained $840 in sales is sold for $23,500
Boho-Dress is a website that sells trendy and affordable bohemian-style dresses for women. The website was launched in June 2023 and generated $840 in sales in its first month. Boho-Dress has a catchy domain name, a beautiful design, and a loyal customer base, giving it such a high business value. That’s why the owner was able to sell the website for $23,500 on Flippa.
LabradorYou – a website that gained $781 in sales is sold for $30,000
You see, no matter how little sales you think you make, it’s actually a great deal for your business in whole. Every new tiny sale adds thousands of dollars to your business value and that’s what you should always keep in mind when starting an ecommerce store and managing it.
