James here, for example, didn’t quite know what to expect from an online store, and got himself a general one just to try it out. One video call later, he’s already thinking of giving it a makeover! How will it work out? Can it help him achieve his goals? Let’s find it out together!

Hi, please introduce yourself!

Hi, my name is James Morris, I’m a military veteran and a father of 4 daughters. Three of my daughters are grown-ups and have their own families, meaning it’s only my youngest 11-year-old daughter who lives with my lovely wife and me right now. It’s a lot of fun and a lot to do – keeps me busy!

I was a stained glass artist for 12 years and now I work in a motorcycle dealership as a department manager.

Amazing! With a diverse background like this, why did you decide to start an ecommerce journey?

I started this because I’m getting close to retirement age and I don’t want to be bored. And, I want to be good at what I do when I retire! So, I started quite early – I still have about 4 years before I retire.

I want to have some fun with it, learn a lot about this, and make an income through it, too. And another thing that motivates me is the chance to build a future for my daughter.

I want to leave my daughter a business she can own.

What ecommerce ideas have you already tried?

I’ve done some blogging before, but it was not for anything other than just because I wanted to talk and wanted my voice to be heard. Those were blogs about my hobbies – I’m a knife collector and a motorcycle enthusiast, and I like boating –  but I’ve never tried to sell anything. I’m not very great with technology and I think that’s where a lot of my problems are.

To be brutally honest, I’ve spent the last 5 years and $100k on fake gurus and motivational speakers telling me I can be rich. Well, didn’t work out!

I have learned a lot from those failures and see positivity in Sellvia which I found while searching the internet. It offers everything I have been hoping for. All the staff members I’ve talked to, from sales representatives to managers setting up my social accounts, have delivered what I expected. These people make me believe an ecommerce business can happen for me.

Tell us more about your experience with Sellvia!

I’ve got a general store just a few days ago. The website is great, it is what I asked for (because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do), but if I could do it again, I would have picked a narrower niche to begin with.

Having a ready-made website is very helpful for somebody who’s not that technical. And still, on second thought, it seems like I’d want to focus on specific products that give the store my own style.

You can totally do that! What ecommerce store ideas do you have in mind?

I’m really interested in starting my own brand rather than just selling random things. I’m thinking of hair care and beard care products, watches, sunglasses, accessories, hair products, men’s fashion and style – I like that stuff!

Sounds great! So, what’s the plan to make your idea a reality?

As advised, I’ll start with deleting the products I’m not personally interested in and importing the ones that I like from the catalog.

Then, when I’m happy with the product range and categories, I’ll be getting products in my hands to make videos and pictures and post my unique content on social media. I’ve already ordered some of the hair care products and posted some pictures with it on my Facebook page.

I would like to create some sort of a community, a page about style for modern men.

On my knife hobby-related Instagram page, I have 1,500 or more followers, so I’m going to start sending them invites to this new page. I would really like to blog and make a name for myself and get to meet other people interested in the same things.

And before I even start reaching out, I should just redo some parts of my offering as recommended, get it all started and organized, and then start when I’m comfortable with the store being me.
